What is Voice over Wireless IP?
Voice over Wireless IP is the delivery of voice service over unlicensed wireless networks such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Also known as Voice over Wireless Lan (VoWLAN or VoWi-Fi), it is a further step in the VoIP revolution as it enables wireless devices such as phones, PDAs and laptops to be used to make calls over wireless IP Connections.

VoIP users need to physically connect to the Internet to deliver voice services. With voice over wireless IP, individuals can use their mobile phone or PDA to connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth channels.

You can make these calls anywhere you have a wireless access point or hotspot. It will work at home where you have a Wi-Fi access point and a broadband connection, at work over the corporate Wi-Fi or in a public hotspot location.

Can Cicero be used for both inbound and outbound calls?
Yes. Cicero can be used for both inbound and outbound calls. For inbound call termination this means when a subscriber enters a wireless access point area, the phone client will alert the controller which makes it possible to terminate calls to that device.

Do I need to have a Mobile Switching Centre to deploy Cicero-based voice services?
No. Cicero operates independently of the cellular network and therefore does not require operators to have an MSC to deploy.
